Tampa Rose Society Browsing Gallery: Roses popular with TRS members
Many varieties of roses flourish in the Tampa Bay area. All rose colors, fragrances, plant forms and sizes are available. However, as you might expect, some varieties are difficult to grow and almost always under perform. To help you decide which roses to grow in your garden, we have compiled a list and photos of several rose varieties that are both beautiful and perform well in the Tampa Bay area. Our list contains roses in several classes to include: hybrid tea (HT), floribunda (F), grandaflora (Gr), shrub (S), climbing roses (LCI), miniature (Min), mini flora (MinFl) and old garden roses (OGR).
Using good sources when buying roses and related garden supplies will go a long way toward increasing your chances for success in growing beautiful healthy roses at minimum cost. Buy grafted roses from southern growers/retailers like: Bay Gardens, Kerby’s, Hardin’s Nursery, Cool Roses, Nelsons' Florida Roses and K&M Nursery. Box stores, like Home Depot, Lowes and Wal - Mart also can be used if you are careful with selections and only choose those with fortuniana root stock. Buy own root OGR and earth kind roses from any local source (Home Depot, Lowes, flee markets etc.). Many are not patented and TRS members may be willing provide you free cuttings or plants from their gardens.
